'Hold Your Position' Kim Potter

This morning, I was reminded of a time when my pastor was preaching about our position of faith. It was a great message on holding fast to faith, especially when everything seemed lost. One day, he said something that went off like fireworks in my spirit. He said, “Don’t look at the conditions; hold your position!” It was undoubtedly one of those statements that not only impacted you at the moment but also stayed with you for a lifetime.

As God brought this statement to mind today, I thought about Abraham.  He was nearly 100 years old when he was promised a son. This seemed impossible; physically speaking it was impossible. Yet once God spoke that promise to Abraham, he did not falter in his belief.

And not being weak in faith, he did not consider his own body, already dead (since he was about a hundred years old), and the deadness of Sarah's womb. (Rom 4:19)

This scripture says that Abraham did not consider his own body – what does that mean? It means he did not allow his body to dictate his faith in what God had said. He refused to fasten his eyes upon the circumstances, instead he looked only to the promise of God. His heart was steadfast and fixed. Keep in mind the scripture says in terms of child-producing, Abraham’s body was already dead. There was nothing there to produce this promise. Yet the promise came to pass.

How about you? Do you have any situations in your life today that appear hopeless and dead? If so, don’t allow what you see to dictate your faith.

Believe what God has said regardless of what you see. Consider not the circumstances. Don’t look at the conditions – hold your position of faith.

Abraham is not the only man in the Bible with this legacy. Look at Moses.

God sent him to Pharoah to command him to release God’s people and Moses obeyed. Yet, the circumstances seemed to get worse and worse. This, however, did not stop God. He delivered His children by a mighty hand…just like He said He would.

And there is Daniel. Thrown into a lion’s den – that, my friend is an impossible situation to escape. Yet escape He did – again, by the mighty hand of God. God shut the mouth of the lion and Daniel was saved.

Remember David – called to be king. However, the king himself sought to kill David, time and again. Yet, David held on the promise and became king, just as God had said.

Let’s take a look at Joshua. God gave him a dream and a promise. Everything, and I do mean everything, including his own family, was opposing that dream. However, nothing could stop Joshua from advancing in the Kingdom of God. Nothing could stop that dream and promise from coming to pass. Not only did that promise come to fruition but this man’s wisdom from God saved a nation and his entire household.

Finally, we see Lazarus. Dead and buried. It would appear it was way past hope. However, Jesus showed up and everything changed.

My friend, do you have a promise from God today—one that seems impossible? Perhaps your circumstances feel dire. If that’s the case, don’t focus on the situation; instead, maintain your faith. If God has placed a dream in your heart, He intends for it to come to fruition. Throughout history, we see that He is the God of the impossible. He has done it repeatedly—from Abraham to David, from Moses to Joshua—the examples are countless. The most wonderful truth is that He will do it for you as well. He desires to fulfill your dreams, He only needs you to stand firm in your faith.

Don’t focus on the distractions around you that vie for your attention.

Instead, concentrate solely on His Word and His promises. What has He said? Fix your eyes on that one truth. Be single-minded; don't waver back and forth. Commit your mind and heart to maintain your position of faith without moving even an inch.

Remember when Jesus told Peter that the enemy wanted to sift him, but Jesus prayed for Peter so that his faith would not fail? Peter’s faith did not fail. Jesus has sent that same prayer to the Father for you—that your faith will not fail either. It will carry you through to the other side.

Take to heart the wise words of my pastor: "Don’t focus on the conditions—hold your position." But what does it mean to hold your position? It means anchoring yourself in the truth of the Word of God, placing your unwavering faith in Him, and ignoring the lies of the enemy. It’s about clinging tightly to the promises that God has given, trusting that they will guide you through any storm to the victory on the other side.

Position yourself in faith and stand firm on the promises that God has made to you. This is a pivotal year, a year destined for total fulfillment. Remember, the absence of visible results doesn’t mean that they aren’t just around the corner, ready to manifest. I once heard someone remark that a staggering 98% of individuals who experience failure are often just a few days away from achieving success—if only they had the perseverance to keep going. You might be mere moments from realizing your dreams, so don’t waver now—stay resolute and hold your ground!
