'Fighting For God's Promises' Bill Johnson

Our lives as believers are defined by promises. It’s the promises of God that get us from where we are now to our unique callings and destinies. However, there is often a battle in the middle.

Paul instructed Timothy to take the prophecies he had been given, which are the promises of God, and ‘wage war with them’ (1 Timothy 1:18). Keeping God’s promises in front of us equips us with strength for the battles we face.

Tragically, the Israelites turned away from their battle and initially refused to enter the Promised Land because of their fear of the giants. Forty years later when the next generation entered the land, there is no mention of giants. Often times, all that God wants from us is to simply show up, responding in obedience, trusting His word.

I have a list of promises that I carry in my Bible. I have seen many fulfilled, but many of them I am still contending for. I ache to see these things come to pass, and urge you to join me in taking hold of the things that God has promised you.
